Happy New Year to all of our readers and followers! New Years Eve saw the arrival of STENA HORIZON in Belfast while STENA NORDICA arrived in Rosslare earlier today. Meanwhile, STENA LAGAN has gone into dry dock at Harland & Wolff for scheduled maintenance.
STENA LAGAN went into dry dock as planned on the morning of New Years Eve, making the short trip from her berth at VT2 across the river to Belfast Dry Dock with the assistance of SVITZER SURREY at around 8am. She will be in dry dock for about two weeks before swapping with sister STENA MERSEY so she can spend around the same amount of time at the facility. Despite the poor light so early in the morning regular contributor Scott Mackey managed to get this shot of STENA LAGAN going into dry dock from the bridge wing of STENA HIBERNIA which was on the berth at VT1.
STENA NORDICA arrived in Rosslare from Gdynia (via Gothenburg) at around 10am today (New Years Day) and is currently being prepared to take up the Rosslare to Cherbourg schedule on Thursday (3rd Jan). She will remain on the Ireland to France route until STENA HORIZON returns from relief duties at Belfast at the end of the month, when she will then cover STENA SUPERFAST X on the Dublin to Holyhead route as well as STENA SUPERFAST VII and VIII on the Belfast to Cairnryan link.
STENA HORIZON made the first daytime crossing in 2019 from Belfast to Birkenhead this morning in place of STENA LAGAN. Although built as a sister ship of STENA LAGAN and STENA MERSEY, her passenger facilities and layout differ slightly from the regular vessels which have been refurbished differently.
With thanks to Scott Mackey and Brian Boyce
