Update 15.05.19: At present it appears that SEATRUCK PERFORMANCE will remain in Belfast Dry Dock until at least May 27th. Her place on the Warrenpoint roster has been taken by CLIPPER POINT which has been moved from the Dublin to Liverpool route.

SEATRUCK PERFORMANCE was forced to return to port shortly after leaving Warrenpoint for Heysham on Wednesday night after hitting “a submerged object or the seabed during its transit of the low-tide lough”, according to the Newry Reporter.  The Seatruck Ro-Ro is to visit Harland & Wolff’s Belfast Dry Dock once temporary repairs have been made and approval gained to move the vessel to the shipyard.

A spokesperson for Seatruck told the Newry Reporter yesterday:

“Seatruck Performance departed Warrenpoint at 10.10pm last night and sustained some damage in Carlingford Lough after the vessel made contact with something, and returned to port for assessment.

“No one was injured and no pollution was caused. The vessel was able to return to Warrenpoint in full power and discharge its cargo.”

At the time of writing SEATRUCK PERFORMANCE is currently moored at Warrenpoint, but is expected to arrive at Harland & Wolff for repairs later today or tomorrow. The MAIB (Marine Accident Investigation Branch) meanwhile has announced that they are investigating the “Grounding of a ro-ro freight ferry in Carlingford Lough, shortly after departing from Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland” on the 8th May. SEATRUCK PERFORMANCE is no stranger to Belfast having served the Belfast to Heysham route as STENA PERFORMER for almost 6 years before returning to owners Seatruck last August.

As a result of the incident, sister-ship and running mate SEATRUCK PRECISION is currently operating the Warrenpoint to Heysham route on her own.
