Stena Europe leaves Gibraltar, but not for Fishguard or Rosslare

Stena Line’s Fishguard to Rosslare multipurpose ferry STENA EUROPE has left Gibraltar having taken on bunkers earlier today.  The veteran vessel has been absent from her route since March due to a life extending refit in Turkey.  Originally expected to take three months, undisclosed technical issues meant her spell at the yard was extended into September.

In addition to blasting the exterior of the ship back to bare metal and repainting, it is understood that the majority of the glazing has been replaced.  STENA EUROPE‘s main engines are also said to have been overhauled as part of the technical work.  There have also been reports that a modern MES (Marine Evacuation System) has been installed, while Stena Line have confirmed that the deckhead on the main vehicle deck has been raised to allow the carriage of “maxi” trailers across the whole deck.

STENA EUROPE is seen in Rosslare showing off her new livery following her 2017 refit at Harland and Wolff, Belfast. Stena Line.

At present, STENA EUROPE is expected to arrive in Liverpool on the evening of September 15.  Her ultimate destination is, however, not yet clear.
