The Belfast – Heysham freight vessel STENA HIBERNIA has been out of service since Monday 28th of August with what is understood to be a problem with a crankshaft.  As a result STENA PRECISION has moved from the Belfast to Birkenhead shoulder-service to maintain the 2 ship timetable at Heysham with her sister-ship STENA PERFORMER. This has resulted in the loss of the freight only vessel from the Birkenhead timetable, which is currently being maintained by STENA LAGAN and STENA MERSEY with no additional freight vessel.  Passenger services have been unaffected.  An additional sailing has been offered each way on Monday mornings (when the vessels usually lay-over) with STENA PERFORMER operating an additional round-trip to Birkenhead last Saturday in order to help with the unaccompanied freight backlog.  At present STENA HIBERNIA is timetabled to return to service on the 18th of September, when the Birkenhead service is expected to revert back to a 3 ship operation.
