Update: STENA EDDA has left China for the first leg of her 10,000+ mile journey to the UK. Like STENA ESTRID, her first stop will be Singapore.
According to the official Stena Line LinkedIn and Twitter accounts, Stena Line has taken ownership of STENA EDDA. The brand-new ferry, a sister of STENA ESTRID which was introduced on the Dublin – Holyhead route on Monday, should leave for U.K. waters in the coming days. NI Ferry understands that delivery actually occurred yesterday on January 15, two months to the day after the delivery of sister-ship STENA ESTRID. The new ship was delivered five days earlier than originally planned according to Shippax (paywalled).
STENA EDDA is expected to be virtually identical to Holyhead – Dublin’s STENA ESTRID. NI Ferry was onboard the maiden voyage of the latter, and a special feature has been added to the site here. After sailing from China, a period of crew familiarisation and final touches STENA EDDA will replace STENA LAGAN on the Belfast – Liverpool (Birkenhead) route. A second new ship, STENA EMBLA, is expected to be delivered for the route next year.
