New Stena Line ferry STENA ESTRID is expected to move onto the schedule of STENA ADVENTURER later so the latter can go for dry docking at Falmouth. STENA SUPERFAST X returned from her stint on the Rosslare – Cherbourg service this morning to take over from STENA ESTRID. According to the live freight timetable it is planned that STENA ESTRID will take up this afternoon’s sailing from Holyhead in place of ‘Adventurer’. STENA SUPERFAST X only arrived at Holyhead from Rosslare at around 10am, meaning this morning’s sailing to Dublin was delayed.
STENA ADVENTURER will be off service for around three weeks while she dry docks at A&P Falmouth. Some refurbishment is expected to take place during this extended absence, particularly on deck 7, and it is understood that work has already started on the ‘Hygge Lounge’, Kids play area, and ‘Movie Lounge’. Although STENA SUPERFAST X is acting as the relief vessel, STENA ESTRID has a far greater freight capacity and so is a better vessel to cover Adventurer as her sailings tend to be busier for freight. ‘Estrid’ appears to be settling into service well, despite some issues at the end of last month which saw her slip off schedule.
In other news, STENA ESTRID‘s sister-ship STENA EDDA made her call at Galle in Sri Lanka yesterday and is now bound for the Gulf of Aden. From there she will proceed along the Red Sea to the Suez Canal and onwards to Europe. Stena Line have not yet announced whether she will got to Belfast or Liverpool for final commissioning and crew training, though the new ship will need berthing trials at both Victoria Terminal 2 in Belfast and 12 Quays South at Birkenhead. Work continues on both berths to upgrade them to accommodate STENA EDDA, as well as sister STENA EMBLA when she arrives next year.
