Stena Edda is a Stena Line owned passenger and vehicle ferry. She is the second of a new class of “E-Flexer” ferries built for Stena in China. Stena Edda has capacity for 930 passengers plus 3,100 lane metres of freight and 120 passenger cars. At 214.4 m long, Stena Edda will be the longest ferry operating to Northern Ireland when she enters service between Belfast and Birkenhead in late-spring 2020.
One of the two new E-Flexer RoPax ferries bound for the Belfast – Liverpool route in 2020 has recently marked an important production milestone by celebrating its official keel-laying at the AVIC shipyard in Weihai, China. The new vessels will have capacity for 1 000 passengers, 120 cars as well as 3 100 freight lane meters.
The keel of Stena’s second E-Flexer (Avic Weihai #WO264) was laid last week. This is the first of the two vessels earmarked for the Belfast to Liverpool route. Meanwhile there are to be changes to the fleet on Stena’s Liverpool and Heysham freight services.
Stena Line has confirmed that the first of its new RoPax ferries currently under construction in China is planned to enter service on its Holyhead – Dublin route early 2020. The following two is assigned to Liverpool-Belfast.
