Overview MV Rachlyn was acquired at a cost of £50,000* for the Strangford ferry service in 2009 to act as a backup passenger only vessel in the event that the normal car carrying vessels Portaferry II and MV Strangford and were both out of service.  Prior to joining the Strangford service, MV Rachlyn operated as an excursion vessel based in Bangor marketed as “the Bangor Boat” (click here to visit their site).  MV Rachlyn replaced the previous passenger only vessel Isle O’Valla.* according to the answer to a question asked in the NI assembly and in the public record.
