Harland & Wolff Group Holdings PLC is UK quoted company focused on strategic infrastructure projects and physical asset lifecycle management.
The company is the owner of the Harland & Wolff brand and controls a number of facilities in the UK. Â This includes the famous Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast from which the holding company takes its name.
Harland & Wolff Belfast is the main ship repair facility within the group. It houses two of the largest dry docks in Europe – Belfast Building Dock and Belfast Dry Dock. Â Belfast Building Dock is amongst the largest dry docks in the world.
The company also has a smaller shipyard facility at Appledore, Devon, and a fabrication facilities at Methil and Arnish Point in Scotland.
Harland & Wolff Group Holdings is also developing a gas storage cavern at Islandmagee. Â This is taking place using the subsidiary company Islandmagee Energy. Â The gas cavern project started while Harland & Wolff Group was still trading under its previous name, Infrastrata. Â This was also prior to the acquisition of the shipyard and fabrication assets.
The Islandmagee gas storage project was awarded a construction licence during October 2021 after a lengthy process. Â There are also plans to store hydrogen eventually. Â This will potentially be produced using excess electricity generated by wind farms.
