All systems go on relaunched Lough Foyle Ferry service.

The relaunched ferry service between Magilligan and Greencastle (Co. Donegal) carried its first passengers yesterday evening (Monday). The resumption of the troubled service had been delayed due to an issue with a high-pressure fuel line onboard the new vessel FRAZER MARINER (ex Berne-Farge).  Limerick based Frazer Ferries are again the operator of the service, which has been branded as “Scenic Lough Foyle Ferry” in a similar fashion to their “Scenic Carlingford Ferry”. It was announced yesterday evening that the vessel was now in service and carrying passengers across the lough for the first time since the previous vessel Foyle Venture (now FRAZER AISLING-GABRIELLE) left the service last year.  Today was the first full day of operation for the service which is…

PR: Update from Paul O’Sullivan, Managing Director, Frazer Ferries

Frazer Ferries sincerely apologises for the delay in the commencement of Scenic Lough Foyle Ferry operations. We understand and greatly regret the disappointment and frustration that the public feel. We are doing everything in our power to commence operations as soon as possible. Over the course of the last two months Foyle Port Engineering have undertaken and completed the final required work to our vessel, the Frazer Mariner. In recent weeks they worked double shifts to undertake all the works, which they completed in the tightest of timeframes and to the highest standards. The two statutory authorities, the Marine Survey Office and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, attended on board our vessel on Monday and Tuesday of this week and…

Former Lough Foyle ferry arrives at Greenore in advance of new Carlingford Lough service opening.

The former Lough Foyle Ferry FOYLE VENTURE arrived at her new home, Greenore, on Carlingford Lough yesterday evening. The 1978 built vessel was repainted at the New Ross boatyard in County Wexford, following as spell covering for FBD TINTERN on the Passage East ferry service. The veteran vessel now wears a mainly dark blue and white colour scheme, with the name FRAZER AISLING GABRIELLE painted on her side instead of FOYLE VENTURE. However, it seems the vessel has yet to be officially renamed.  FOYLE VENTURE/FRAZER AISLING GABRIELLE is due to open the new ‘Scenic Carlingford Ferry’ crossing between Greencastle (County Down) and Greenore (County Louth) on or around June 2nd 2017. A quick news roundup featuring some vessels which previously plied their trade in NI waters. LE RIF:  Could the former STENA GALLOWAY/GALLOWAY PRINCESS soon be back in service? The last purpose-built vessel for the Larne to Stranraer service could soon be back plying her trade in the Mediterranean.  Last month LE RIF (ex Stena Galloway, Galloway Princess) was moved from La Spezia to Napoli.  The vessel had previously been purchased at auction by the mysterious new Moroccan company DWLM who had intended to refit her at Malaga, however the vessel was moved to La Spezia amid reports of a dispute with the Malaga yard owners over costs.  Reports from Italy suggest that the vessel may now be under the control of the…

Lough Foyle Ferry Company cease operations.

Lough Foyle Ferry service between Magilligan and Greencastle will not run again unless a new operator and vessel is found. Lough Foyle Ferry Company have confirmed that they have sold their vessel Foyle Venture to Frazer Ferries, and have informed Donegal County Council and Causeway Coast and Glen Council that they will not be seeking to renew the contract to operate the service when the current agreement expires at the end of next March.  Manager Jim McClenaghan told the Derry Journal they had no option but to cease service and sell the ferry as it has been “running on a shoestring” for a number of years and their “pleas for funding fell on deaf ears.” Limerick based Frazer Ferries hope to inaugurate a…
