SANTOÑA is a Brittany Ferries operated Ro-Pax ferry which is normally allocated to the Portsmouth to Santander and Portsmouth to Cherbourg routes. She is one of three similar vessels which form the backbone of Brittany Ferries’ routes between Spain and the UK and Ireland.

Sister-ships

SANTOÑA is the third of five Stena E-Flexer Class ferries ordered by Brittany Ferries from Stena RoRo as part of their 2020’s fleet modernisation strategy. Like her direct sister-ship SALAMANCA, SANTOÑA is a dual-fuel vessel and can use either LNG or Diesel as fuel. Brittany Ferries chose to order SANTOÑA and SALAMANCA as LNG vessels in order to further reduce the environmental emissions of the ships. Part-sister-ship GALICIA uses an exhaust gas cleaning scrubber system to reduce her emissions instead.

As E-Flexer ferries, SANTOÑA, SALAMANCA, and GALICIA share a common platform with Stena Line’s STENA ESTRID, STENA EDDA, STENA EMBLA, STENA ESTELLE and STENA EBBA as well as DFDS’ CÔTE D’OPALE. Brittany Ferries has two further vessels ordered based on the same E-Flexer platform, SAINT-MALO and an as-yet unnamed ferry for the Portsmouth – Caen (Ouistreham) route.

SANTOÑA is named after a picturesque fishing village located between Santander and Bilbao, about 45km east of the former.
