STENA VISION is a Stena Line owned and operated cruiseferry which presently sails on the Karlskrona – Gdynia route. From June 2023, STENA VISION will move to the Rosslare – Cherbourg route where she will sail opposite the existing passenger vessel STENA HORIZON. Although originally built in Poland during the 1980’s as STENA GERMANICA, STENA VISION has been refurbished and rebuilt a number of times. In 2010 she was replaced on the Gothenburg – Kiel route by the present STENA GERMANICA. Before transferring to the Polish route, STENA VISION was extensively modernised and renovated in Sweden.

In her present configuration, STENA VISION can accommodate 1,300 passengers and up to 120 freight units, 440 cars or a combination of both.

Sister-ships

STENA VISION was the first of four large ferries ordered by Stena Line from Polish shipyards in 1979. STENA VISION was delivered as STENA GERMANICA (1987) and was marketed as the worlds largest ferry at the time. Her sister-ship, STENA SPIRIT, was originally STENA SCANDINAVICA (1998).

Despite being launched in August 1981, delays at the shipyard, at least in part caused by the rise of the “solidarity” movement, meant that the first of the ships was not delivered to Stena until 1987. As a result of these delays, Stena Line cancelled the contract for the second pair of ships meaning that only two sisters were delivered to Stena. A third ship, now known as EL VENIZELOS, was partially largely constructed in Poland and completed in Greece as a part-sister ship. Despite plans for the fourth ship to be completed as the cruise ship REGENT SKY, the vessel was scrapped in 2012 having never seen service.

Name

Until 2016, the name STENA VISION was also used by a tanker owned by a sister company of Stena Line.
