Brittany ferries
Brittany Ferries is a French-based ferry operator which offers a number of routes linking England, France, Ireland, and Spain. The company also holds a minority stake in Channel Islands ferry operator Condor Ferries. Brittany Ferries was originally set up in 1972 by a group of Breton farmers led by Alexis Gourvennec, keen to export their produce to the United Kingdom which was joining the EEC the following year.
The first Brittany Ferries sailing took place on 2 January, 1973 between St Malo in Brittany and Plymouth in Devon. This was the day after the UK joined the EEC.
