Świnoujście, on the Baltic coast, is one of the Poland’s busiest ports. Close to the German border, the port’s location has developed it into one of the biggest ferry bases in the region in recent years. Gallery of NILS HOLGERSSON arriving at Świnoujście on 2 May 2022. TT-Line’s newest fleet member, the so-called “Green Ship”, NILS HOLGERSSON only entered service as recently as 26 April 2022. Built by the Chinese Nanjing Jinling Shipyard, the vessel is the first in the TT-Line fleet to be LNG-powered. She will be joined by a sister PETER PAN, which is expected to be delivered later in the year. As with the recent DFDS newbuilds AURA SEAWAYS and LUNA SEAWAYS, the vessel brings cruiseferry standards to a Ro-pax ferry. Images of her accommodation can be seen here. AKKA The previous flagship of the TT-Line fleet, AKKA was named NILS HOLGERSSON until the start of 2022 when the name was released for the newbuild. The name AKKA is a goose character from the children’s book “The Wonderful Adventures of Nils” by Selma Lagerlöf. This relates the ship’s new name to her old name. The 2001-built ferry has a capacity for 2,600 lane metres of freight, some 2,000 less than the newbuild that took her name. AKKA arrives Świnoujście on 30 April 2022. Image: Bartosz Bagiński FSE. Early 2018 saw the ship was lengthened by 30 metres at Bremerhaven. This increased her lane metre capacity by around 1,000 lane metres to 3,600 lm. The ship is due to be re-named TINKER BELL in the near future to release the name PETER PAN for the second LNG newbuild from Jinling. ‘Tinker Bell’ is another character from children’s fiction, being the fairy friend of Peter Pan. NILS DACKE and ROBIN HOOD Built by Finnyards in 1995, the Ro-paxes NILS DACKE and ROBIN HOOD have been some of the most regular vessels on the Trelleborg – Świnoujście route. With a lane metre capacity of 2,400 and a 366 passenger capacity, the vessels very much sit more on the freight side of Ro-pax.
