As has been widely reported in the media, what is left of  Hurricane Ophelia is expected to hit the UK and Ireland on Monday 16th October ’17.  A severe weather warning has already been issued, with the NI Weather and Flood Advisory Service issuing Red and Amber weather warnings and the Met Office an Amber weather warning.  As this is expected to be one of the worst storms in recent years, with the coast of Ireland and Northern Ireland expected to be the most badly hit area with winds of up to 80mph predicted, it is likely that there will be disruption to ferry and airline travel as well as potential problems with road and rail links.  If you are intending to travel at the start of the week NIFS advise that you check regularly with your chosen operator and allow additional time to get to the port.  People travelling … Read more

Sailing update: Storm Desmond delays and cancellations, 5/12/15

Sailing updates due to adverse weather on services from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Below is a snapshot of how things stand at present (13:40 Saturday 5th December 2015). As always if you plan to travel, please contact your chosen operator directly for the latest sailing information.  NI – UK sailing updates Belfast – Cairnryan (Loch Ryan Port) Stena Superfast VII continues to sail as normal, however Stena Superfast VIII is off-service today for planned essential maintenance. Belfast – Liverpool (Birkenhead) This mornings 10:30 sailing were cancelled as previously notified, however at present tonights 22:30 sailings from both Belfast and Liverpool look to be going ahead. Belfast – Heysham (freight) Stena Hibernia crossed to Liverpool last night, and is still there.  Stena Precision looks not to have sailed last night, and is alongside in Belfast.  Stena Performer also looks to be operating Belfast – Liverpool. SAILING UPDATE: Stena Line: Services to and from Cairnryan are expected to be disrupted today with the 07:30 ex Cairnryan and 03:30 and 11:30 ex Belfast already cancelled. All other services except the 23:30 departures are currently listed as ‘in doubt’ on Stena’s Ferry Check website Services to and from Birkenhead are operating to schedule according to the service. Update:  All Stena services from 19:30 onwards are operating to schedule P&O Sailings to Cairnryan are currently advised to be operating on schedule, but with high winds in the North Channel (gale force 8) and 6-8 metre waves predicted it is reasonable to say there may be disruption later on. Seatruck services currently appear to be operating to schedule. As always, please contact your preferred operator directly for the latest sailing information.

Storm Rachel afternoon/early evening update (NI), 15/1/15

Severe disruption to ferry services continues as storm Rachel continues to batter both the UK and Ireland. All Stena services to and from Cairnryan and Belfast are either cancelled or in doubt (see below), with both vessels shortly to be in Belfast – Stena Superfast VIII left Cairnryan at around 12:30 and is currently approaching Belfast Lough (at 14:10). Following on from the update earlier today, this is the latest information from Stena Line Ex Belfast 12th Dec @ 0330am – passengers sent SMS and advised sailing @ 0230am & check-in no later than 0200am Ex Belfast 12th Dec @ 0730am – passengers sent SMS and advised sailing @ 0830am & check-in no later than 0730am Ex Belfast 12th Dec 1930 & 2330 to be confirmed later today and ex Cairnryan **** DUE TO TECHNICAL PROBLEMS AND BAD WEATHER OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS THE FOLLOWING TIMETABLE IS IN OPERATION TODAY (FRIDAY) **** : 0400 SAILING AS NORMAL 0730 RESHEDULED TO 0630 (1HR EARLY) 1130/1530 RESCHULED TO 1330 1930 RESCHEDULED TO 1830 Stena Superfast VII crossed and briefly used the berth at Belfast this evening – she is currently en route back to Cairnryan.  It would appear from the above information that one of the berths at Cairnryan is … Read more

This is the latest from Stena’s Ferry Check service **** DUE TO TECHNICAL PROBLEMS AND BAD WEATHER FORECAST FOLLOWING SAILINGS ARE CANCELLED **** : Thursday 11/12/14 0400 , 0730 , 1130 , 1530 , 1930 and 2330 – ALL CANCELLED Friday 12/12/14 0400 , 0730 in serious doubt … 1130 , 1530 ,1930 and 2330 also doubtful Updates as soon as more information is received NI Ferry Site understand that damage has been sustained to the berth at Cairnryan as a result of the incident involving Stena Superfast VII.  Chatter on social media suggest that a floating crane is required in order to fix this damage, with the weather also hampering inspection/repair efforts.
